How the Cosmic Score Works

AstroDog's cosmic score is not a random number, a general horoscope, or a mood-based estimate. It is calculated from the angular relationships between today's planetary positions and the unique configuration of the sky at the moment of your birth. Here's how it works.

Step 1 – Your Natal Chart Foundation

Everything begins with your birth chart — the precise snapshot of the sky at your birth date, time, and location. When you enter your birth data into AstroDog, our system uses Swiss Ephemeris, a high-precision astronomical library built on NASA JPL planetary data, to calculate the position of every planet in your chart. These natal positions are your fixed astrological coordinates — the personal map points that transiting planets form relationships with throughout your life. The more precise your birth time, the more accurate your Rising sign and house positions will be, which makes your daily score more personal. An unknown birth time still allows solid Sun, Moon, and planetary calculations.

Step 2 – Daily Transiting Positions

Each day, the system calculates where the Sun, the Moon, and the planets are right now, using the same Swiss Ephemeris data. These are the 'transiting' positions that change daily — and, for the Moon, hour by hour. By mapping today's sky against your natal chart, AstroDog identifies the active transits: which transiting planets are forming aspects to your natal planets, what kind of aspects they are, and whether each aspect is tightening or fading.

Step 3 – Aspect Evaluation

Not every aspect carries the same influence. Each active transit is evaluated by the kind of aspect it forms, the nature of the planets involved, and how exact the aspect is. Harmonious aspects add support to a life area, while challenging ones add tension. The specific values behind this evaluation are part of AstroDog's own model and are not published.

Step 4 – Life Domains

Every transit is linked to the life areas its planets traditionally rule, such as love and relationships, career, money, energy, and wellness. The evaluated transits are combined into a score for each area and into your overall daily score, both shown on a 0–100 scale. Because the Moon moves quickly, your scores also shift through the day, which is what the hourly energy map shows.

Step 5 – Interpreting Your Score

Higher scores point to stronger cosmic support in a life area — good moments for launches, important conversations, or decisions. Middle scores describe mixed conditions, where supportive and challenging influences are active at the same time and flexibility pays off. Lower scores flag more tension. They are not days to avoid; they are days to move with extra awareness and patience. Your score is guidance for timing, not a prediction of what will happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the cosmic score?

The astronomical calculation is precise — Swiss Ephemeris data is accurate to arc-second precision. Turning those positions into a daily score is AstroDog's own interpretive model, built on traditional astrological rules. Like any model, it captures the most significant factors while necessarily simplifying the full complexity of a natal chart reading. We consistently find that users report strong correlation between their scores and actual daily experience, particularly for the Love and Vital Energy domains.

Why do two people born the same day have different scores?

Two people born on the same day in different years will have the same Sun sign but different natal positions for the outer planets (which move slowly) and completely different Moon sign positions (the Moon changes signs every 2–3 days). Two people born the same day but at different times will have different Rising signs, different house positions for every planet, and possibly a different Moon sign if the Moon changed signs that day. All of these differences create meaningfully different natal maps, which in turn produce different cosmic scores when today's transiting planets are overlaid. This is why personalized birth data always produces more precise and useful readings than general Sun sign forecasts.

Can I improve a low cosmic score?

Your cosmic score reflects the current energetic conditions — you cannot change the planetary positions any more than you can change the weather. What you can change is how you work with the available conditions. A low love score is not a sentence to relationship failure; it's a flag to bring extra patience, gentleness, and awareness to your closest connections that day. A low career score is not a reason to stop working; it's a signal to focus on process, preparation, and internal development rather than high-stakes external launches. Every score, high or low, is navigable with the right orientation.
